Raising the Bar for Local Food
The local food movement – the hot trend that has captured the attention of farmers, consumers, retailers and more – looks as though it is here to stay. Where it goes from here to benefit the industry, however, remains under much discussion. OCFA Executive Director Jim Clark believes there’s more to local food than being able to say it is grown or raised in Ontario. In this commentary, he explains that Ontario products can be produced to meet an established set of standards that would be recognized by Foodland Ontario – a program that already resonates with Ontario consumers.
