The latest edition of The News Feed is now online. In this issue: The Ontario Corn Fed Beef Quality Assurance program recently became a certifying body for the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB). Consumers are increasingly interested in how their food is produced and are seeking more information than ever before about the practices used to raise beef in Canada. Certification provides producers with recognition for the sustainable practices they already employ on Canadian beef farms and ranches.
Also, Ontario Corn Fed Beef is proud to be part of the Ontario Made program. This new initiative from the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters promotes the world-class goods that are made across the province by helping consumers easily identify, access and purchase local products.
Another highlight is an update on the research on cattle behaviour and feed bunk management. The Ontario Cattle Feeders’ Association, the Ontario Corn Fed Beef program and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs teamed up for the study last summer. The project underscored the need to encourage producers to strive for consistency in their cattle feeding operations’ daily activities using good management practices.
